Welcome to summer, the season of vacations! There are many different vacation spots in the world, but it seems that the most popular ones are tropical islands. From Hawaii to the Caribbean, it seems like everybody loves a good island. So instead of spending thousands of dollars to go to these locations, why not just pop in these games and enjoy a digital vacation instead? Put on your flowered shirts and get your sunscreen on, these are the Top 10 Tropical Islands in Gaming.

10-Outset Island (The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker)

There are many islands in Wind Waker, but none are quiet as great as Outset Island. While other islands are certainty more interesting, but this one feels the most adventurous. It feels like a perfect starting point for an adventure, and it has many secrets to find.

9-Dot The Island (Scribblenauts Unlimited)

Dot The Island is one of the most diverse levels in Scribblenauts Unlimited, and it’s also the only island in the game. It has some of the most varied tasks, from helping put out a fire on an oil brig to stopping a sailor from falling for a siren. And if that isn’t enough, the visuals on the island are also very impressive.

8-Secret Island (Kirby’s Epic Yarn)

Kirby’s Epic Yarn is scattered with different level themes, and one of the best is the Secret Island. This arts-and-crafts island is one of the most visually impressive levels in the game, as well as one of the best themed. The further you go in the level, the thicker the jungle’s canopy becomes and the lower the lighting gets.

7-Tortimer’s Island (Animal Crossing: New Leaf)

Since I had to tear myself away from Animal Crossing just to write this entry, I guess you could say that I’m a fan of New Leaf. One of my favorite parts of the game is Tortimer’s Island, a beautiful tourist spot owned by my second favorite turtle in gaming. He gives you tours of the beautiful island where you can compete against your friends for currency. And if you don’t want to tour, you can just relax on the beach and eat the tropical fruits and fish.

6-Monkey Island (Monkey Island)

Monkey Island lives up to its name. This is a large island that has statues of monkeys littered throughout it, but it’s mostly inhabited by pirates. The island is the perfect backdrop for Guybrush Theepwood’s antics, and the island sort of takes  on a personality of its own in the games, giving it the number six spot.

5-Hantu Island (Just Cause 2)

After going to those rather tourist-friendly locations, why not head to a corrupt and violent island owned by a ruthless dictator? Hantu is a beauty to see, and even better to experience. You can skydive, Jet Ski, fly biplanes, or do some off-road driving in an ATV. And when you are done wreaking havoc, you can just explore the stunning landscapes yourself.

4-Rook Islands (Far Cry 3)

The Rook Islands may be beautiful, but they’re not a resort. Everybody who’s ever been to the island has slowly gone insane, and it shows. Madmen inhabit the island, and Jason Brody will become one if he doesn’t find a way off. But between hunting down pirates, you can always stop and enjoy the fantastic scenery.

3-Wuhu Island (Wii Sports Resort)

While Wii Sports Resort isn’t a very good game, it does have one of the most memorable islands in gaming. Wuhu is an ideal vacation spot in every sense of the word. It has hotels, sporting arenas, hiking trails, beaches, small towns, and even some historical ruins. This area alone made my purchase of Wii Sports Resort feel justified.

2-Banoi Island (Dead Island)

Dead Island is a zombie game that manages to actually have a creative location. Instead of a destroyed city, you’re in a colorful island paradise that’s just been hit with the plague. It’s one of the few games that takes its tropical setting to its full potential, with swimming pools clouded with blood and survivors hiding out in hotels.

1-Isle Delphino (Super Mario Sunshine)

The second I came up with the idea for this list, this was the first island I thought of. Isle Delphino is a dolphin-shaped island that’s terrorized by Bowser’s son as well as his father’s army. This is an island that takes every tropical island trope and mashes it all together into one ball of atmosphere. There are volcanoes, oil rigs, beaches, and even an amusement park!
